Piazza San Marco

I am sure that almost everybody dreams about Venice. The city of romance attracts million of people each year with its water canals and beauty. This is definitely something that must be seen not only on a picture. The only way is to spend a few days in some of the great Venice hotels and you will feel the spirit of the city of bridges.

St. Mark's Square is the only urban space where you can hear more human voices than traffic sounds. The Piazza was paved in 12th century with bricks. Its original pavement is reserved in paintings during the Renaissance. Later it was replaced with something more complex designed by the architect Andrea Tirali. The pavement you can see now is almost the same as the one laid in 1723.

Unfortunately, the Piazza is the lowest place in Venice and it's been flooded very often. Especially during the period called Acqua Alta when the water in Grand Canal becomes high.

At the east end of the square, you can see the wonderful St Mark's Basilica. It is a cathedral church that originally was a chapel. The building is one of the most impressive in Venice. If you decide to visit this amazing city, you should know that one day is not enough. In order to feel the spirit of the place, you need to spend a few days in some of the luxurious hotels in Venice. Enjoy their hospitality and nice service.
