Rockingham Raceway

Rockingham raceway is one of the most popular venues in the UK for motor sports. Ranking as England’s fastest racing circuit, this Northamptonshire track features a wide range of exciting events; including track days, promotional events, manufacturing shows, conferences, exhibitions and driver training.
Unsurprisingly, there is a wide selection of hotels near Rockingham Raceway.

The raceway at Rockingham was opened by the Queen on 26th May 2001, and since then has hosted countless races and competitions. This unique course is the only quadrilateral racetrack in the UK, and has been used for a diverse variety of events – ranging from Formula 1 to pickup truck racing.

The events at Rockingham tend to get a good turnout, with the record attendance being the massive crowd of 40,000 spectators who gathered here in 2008 for the BTCC event. The oval circuit measures a total length of 1.47 miles, giving a main road distance of 1.94 miles. With a total of fourteen different configurations of the course available, the raceway can easily accommodate anything from touring car to motorcycle events.

Since its construction, Rockingham Raceway has enjoyed a series of superb races, and some truly breathtaking finish times. The lap record for the oval circuit is currently held by Tony Kanaan, who managed to complete the 1.47 miles in a staggering time of 24.719 seconds! This means that his Lola-Ford Champ Car would have been averaging a speed of 215.397 miles per hour for the lap.

Rockingham Raceway is easily accessed from England’s motorway network, and is just 30 minutes away from Bedford. The closest train station to the course is in Corby, and visitors can easily take advantage of some great Corby hotels in the area. From here there is an hourly service connecting Corby to London St. Pancras station, as well as trains to many other top UK cities.
